Over a decade ago, I was preparing for the messiness and power of the work I am doing now as a cultural producer and artist. As the founder of Power Street Theatre my vision is to challenge systemic oppression by creating positions of leadership for People of Color, women, immigrants, disabled people and LGBTQ+ identified folxs. As a director, I get to cast POC in major roles; as an educator, I get to work with dynamic youth and adults; as an actor, I get to take up space with my plus-size body, curly hair and Spanglish tongue. This work and my existence are the ways I create meaningful art for social change.
